The Asheville Track Club is guided by four officers and an eight member executive committee which, together, act in good faith and in the best interest of our organization.
The running bug bit Kelly Allen just three years ago after a friend convinced her to run in our local Turkey Trot. Though it had been twenty years since Kelly ran competitively (or at all for that matter), she immediately started training with a coach and as never looked back! While Kelly has won various 5K age-group awards in races around western Carolina, her true passion is track. In the coming seasons, Kelly intends to participate in as many USATF masters track events as possible, while convincing fellow runners to join her in the merriment! [Email Kelly]
Julie ran her first 5k in 2000, and has since enjoyed training for and competing in races of varying distances and challenge levels, including half marathon, Shut-In, marathon, Hood to Coast relay, and still the occasional 5k. Julie is mom to three fabulous and amazing teen-agers, is a local business owner, and is now engaged to a fellow runner. Julie is ready and excited to be part of the Asheville Track Club board this year. Girl Power! . [Email Julie]

My brother ran Cross Country at TC Roberson and when it was my turn to go to TCR I did the same thing. So I have been running about 32 years with a few breaks in between. I have run for different reasons over the years but for now I run to stay healthy and chat on the trails. I was member of the track club in the 80s but during one of my breaks I dropped my membership. I rejoined the track club in 1998 when I wanted to run Shut In again and I have been a member ever since. I was recruited to the Board by Darrell Redmond a few years back and have enjoyed my time on it. [Email Dolly]

Co-workers “forced/shamed” me into running during our lunch hour back in the late 70’s. We had a track and showers right across the street so there were no excuses as far as they were concerned. I could think of many but was out voted on all counts. The first 5K came a couple months later where I won my age group. That was it, I was hooked. Since then, I have raced in every distance except the ultra’s. As I get older, but not necessarily wiser, I find myself slowing down and making excuses again. It can’t be age, so a good excuse is always a way to explain slower times. Works for me anyway. Now I live or race vicariously through others. The CPR group has given my running new life and meaning as I push closer to 70. I can remember back to my late 30’s when I started running and was so inspired by those “old guys” in their 60’s that could still run a fast 5 or 10K. Now I are one. Except for that fast part, but at least I can say I’ve been there and done that. I keep all my trophies and ribbons out where I can see them to remind myself of all the great runs in the past and to inspire me to keep with the program. And, a big THANKS to my CPR friends for keeping me honest and out there. I may be a ¼ mile back but I’m there and never alone. [Email Dick]

Doug began running in high school to get in shape for football. During track season, he was a javelin thrower and was put in the mile relay occasionally. After high school, he kept running and ran the 1970 Boston Marathon. He was hooked and has run ever since. Doug became a podiatrist so he could treat his many running injuries! Doug wants to keep running until he is 100 and will be ticked if he doesn't get in five miles on the day he dies. [Email Doug]
Even though football was my sport through high school and college, running has always been natural for me. I have now been running on a regular basis for almost 35 years. My primary running goal is to stay healthy enough to keep on running. My racing philosophy is never, ever dog it and finish pretty.
I found running late, age 56, after retiring from teaching high school English in Dayton, Ohio, and moving to Asheville in 2002. After a few weeks on the YMCA treadmill, a friend, Tim Warner, talked me into my first race, Valentine 5K in 2004. I was hooked! Then he talked me into my first marathon in 2007. Shortly thereafter, my neighbor, Tim Grotenhuis, talked me into becoming editor of Runnin’ On, and I’ve been working on both graphics and content with each issue.
