Beginning Runners Program 2008 This year’s Beginning Runners Program can only be described as a total success. There were 147 people enrolled in the program. Beginners ranged in age from 14 to 63. We had six husband/wife teams and several parents who ran with their children. We even had one couple who missed a few practice runs due to previous plans of getting married. This group was committed to their goal of completing the BeleChere 5K. They kept the practice schedule while on vacation and even returned early to run the race. 50 of the beginner runners completed the program with the running of the 29th BeleChere 5K. Finishing times ranged from 24 minutes to 45 minutes. We can no longer call them beginner runners. They have run their first race and can truly be called “runners” Many have continued their running and have joined the CPR group at Carrier Park. Several plan to run the Hot August Nights and Citizen-Times 5K. Look out Track Club members we have new competition in almost every age group. A special thanks to this year’s coaching staff; Wayne Stanko, Jim Semon, Barbara Galloway, Danielle Deines, Terri Connelly and Steve Gromley. Without them this program would not be possible. I truly enjoyed coaching this group and look forward to seeing them at many races in the future. Keep on running, Tom Kingsbury
