Rules

1. You must be an ATC member to participate in the Grand Prix. You must also do a one-time registration to compete in the Grand Prix series. There is no charge for registration for ATC members and they may enter by providing their name, birth date, and age to Rick Taylor by e-mailing him at ricktaylor@charter.net. Non-ATC members may register by filling out a flyer that will be available at all Grand Prix races until July 1, 2007. However, they must also join the ATC. Membership forms are available at the our membership page. Persons joining the ATC prior to July 1 will be credited with their scores from any Grand Prix races ran prior to that date. Persons joining after July 1 will not be retroactively scored and will be credited only for remaining Grand Prix races.

2. Points will be awarded only for your position in the race designated on the Grand Prix schedule. For example, if the Sunset Stampede 10 Mile is on the schedule, no points will be awarded in the Sunset Stampede 4 Mile.

3. There will be at least 20 races on the Grand Prix. The schedule is subject to change. Please note that several race dates are currently tentative.

4. Adults must compete in at least 8 races to qualify for the points competition. Only your 8 best finishes will be scored.

5. Runners who compete in more than 8 races will receive a one point bonus for each additional race.

6. A one point bonus will also be awarded for participation in designated races. These consist of the Bele Chere 5K, Thomas Wolfe 5K and the Jus' Running Turkey Trot 5K.

7. The Grand Prix will be scored as follows:

  • a. Overall: The top finisher in each race who is a member of the ATC and a Grand Prix participant will receive 100 points, the next person 99 points, and so on. For those races where more than 100 ATC members take part, such as Bele Chere, each finisher after the 98th will each receive 1 point. Only the standings for the top fifteen runners (male and female) will be shown on the web site.
  • b. Age-groups: For each race, the top finisher within each age group will receive 10 points, second gets 9 points, etc., down to a minimum of 1 point. All runners will be shown on the web site.
  • c. Masters (age 40 and up): The top finisher will receive 10 points, second gets 9 points, etc., down to a minimum of 1 point. Runners who turn 40 during the year will only accrue masters point for races in which they have passed age 40. Only the standings for the top ten Masters will be shown on the web site.
  • d. Grand Masters (age 50 and up): Age-graded scoring will be used. Points on a 10 down to 1 scale will be awarded based on how well each runner does relative to the world record for that race distance at his/her own age. The system used provides a percentile. The runner with the highest percentile per race gets 10 points, the second gets 9 points, etc. Only the standings for the top ten Grand Masters will be shown on the web site.

8. If you change age groups during the Grand Prix season, you will compete in your new age group. Points will be awarded based on your age group at the time of the race. The total points will be compared against other competitors in the age group in which you complete the year.

9. The age groups are as follows: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over.

Note: In the Grand Prix results are many occurrences of two runners with the same score for the same race. These occur for two reasons: (1) when a runner changes age-groups he brings the scores for all of his races from the younger AG to the older AG and (2) until the Bele Chere race, anyone becoming a Grand Prix participant was given scores for all Grand Prix races run earlier in the season. However, in both of these instances, we do NOT readjust or change the existing points for any other runners in that race.
